Avalanche warning for region Indre Sogn Sunday 16.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 15. January 2022

Mountain weather

Saturday 15. January 2022

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the evening. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 16. January 2022

18 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from west, changing to storm from the northwest during the evening. -10 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
